I love pumpkin.....pumpkin food. This begins my favorite time of year for baking. And those jack-o-lanterns we had for Halloween are a good thing to use for pumpkin puree in our recipes.
As I was buying my pumpkins this year, I couldn't help but notice how expensive they were. Then I saw this post on one of my favorite blogs and I knew I wasn't alone in thinking that! Crystal has a great recipe and the how-to in cooking a pumpkin so you don't waste a thing! Last year I pureed my pumpkins and I still have some in the freezer to use now.
Here are more things to make from your pureed pumpkin. Just substitute your pumpkin instead of using canned pumpkin.
- mom's pumpkin pie squares (a personal favorite growing up)
- banana pumpkin bread
- pumpkin roll (another favorite!)
- pumpkin chocolate chip cookies
Oh, and don't forget to roast the pumpkin seeds! My favorite part!

ok 5 people told me to never use the big pumpkins for puree because it doesn't taste the same as the small pumpkins or the pumpkin in the can- is that true? Because I did already puree one pumpkin and so I am curious if it will make good pumpkin pie.
Thanks for sharing this! I decided I'm going to give it a try but I want to bake my pumpkins instead of boil and found a good guest post on Money Saving Mom with a great tutorial!
I noticed they were expensive this year, also. I want to grow my own next year if I have a garden!
Thanks again for sharing, this post inspired me and I just blogged about pumpkin puree too and I of course included you! Thanks Marne!
