Frugal Living Friday: Recycled Gifts

Welcome to Frugal Living Friday! Each week I will feature a tip that can help us stretch our budget and live more frugally! If you have a tip that you want shared on Frugal Living Friday, let me know and you could become a guest blogger for a day.

Do you ever find yourself in a tight spot when you need a quick birthday or thank you gift? Take those empty Crystal Light containers and turn them into a cute gift! (This would be perfect for you if you stocked up on Crystal Light at Albertson's last week.) I made several into "yummy jars" that I filled with candy and gave away.

I made these back in 2006 so the supplies are a bit outdated. I have made countless "yummy jars" since then, I just haven't taken pictures. The last ones I made a few months ago turned out super cute! I gave them to my regular babysitters for Christmas gifts.

Supplies needed:

empty Crystal Light container (mine are actually Great Value brand)
glue or adhesive
scrapbook paper
embellishments of your choice
letter stickers

Measure your paper to the size you want around the container. As you can see in my pictures I did a few different kinds of paper, and I tore some edges instead of cutting them. Then glue the paper on. I just used a really good glue stick. Then I added the letter stickers and embellishments. I have a circle punch that I used to punch a paper circle to glue to the lid. Then fill with your recipient's favorite candy!

This is a thrifty idea for me because I have lots and LOTS of these supplies on hand! Try to use any kind of container and craft supplies you have on hand to make this idea as frugal as possible.

Another recycled gift idea is making an altered Altoid Tin with keepsakes photos. I did this last year for my parents and youngest brother before they left home for two years. It turned out fabulous...but unfortunately I couldn't find the pictures on my computer to share.

These are cute. I've also done these with pringles cans and formula cans. Works great for bigger "presents". They also make cute banks.
