Who wants these?

I have 300 bonus Campbell's Labels for Education that I got at Albertson's last week when shopping. The school my son goes to no longer does this program, so I can't use them. If you can, let me know and I will mail them out to you!

Paul's Market

Over here in southwestern Idaho, there is only one choice for doubling coupons. That place is Paul's Market. Click on their website for their weekly flyer ad and addresses and directions to their stores. In addition to the 6 stores in the Treasure Valley, there are also Paul's Market locations in McCall and Homedale, WY.

I have only been to the Boise location so far, and I know they double coupons up to $1 anytime. As for the other locations, call before you go and plan your trip to make sure they double too.

If you don't know, doubling a coupon means that the store will double the face value of the coupon when you use it as you check out. For example, if I an purchasing a box of Tide detergent for $9.99 and I have a coupon for .75/1, they will take off an additional .75 so my total savings is $1.50 off that $9.99 box of Tide. The same concept applies for tripling coupons. If you have ever shopped at a Harris Teeter store, you get that luxury!

Doubling coupons is a good way to come ahead on your grocery bill. Many times if you hit good sales and have the right coupons you can come out ahead and actually "get paid" to buy your items! Think food storage! I would love to have more options around here with doubling and even tripling coupons. We just don't. If you live in an area where you get double and triple coupons discounts when you shop, share your information!

**If you want to know if grocery stores in your area double or triple coupons, just call and ask if they have double or triple coupons days.**

Free Trident Gum

Want some free gum?

Look in the Walgreens ad this week. If you don't get the newspaper, they have them in the store. There is a store coupon for Trident Gum that is buy 1 get 1 free. Pair that with a buy one get one manufacturer coupon from the March 9th Smart Source newspaper insert, and whalla!

Four packs of free gum!

Here is a printable coupon you can use if you don't get the newspaper.

Just in case you are confused on how this will work, here is an explanation: First of all, you can always combine store coupons and manufacturer coupons. That gives you the maximum discount. The Walgreens store coupon buys you one pack of gum. The manufacturer's coupon buys the other pack. So there are 2 packs down. The other 2 packs are free as stated on the coupons. Each time I combine B1G1F coupons at Walgreens it always comes out completely free on both ends!

Needs vs. Wants

Saving money is basically about willpower. In today's society where you can get pretty much anything on credit, most people have no discipline when it comes to spending money or saving money. If you want to get ahead, you have to save. And there is no time like the present.

Ask yourself before you buy: "Do I really need this, or do I want it?" Most times, you would be surprised that the answer would be want. We all have different life circumstances which determine needs and wants for our own families, but if you are serious about saving money you will start to ask this question to yourself more and follow it.

Remember last month when I went for one month without spending money (except on gasoline and groceries)? I ended up saving 79% on my grocery bill compared to the month before, and 24% on gasoline compared to the month before. We also saved 50% more than the previous month! We were so focused on saving that we did well in all areas, not just the extras. It felt so good to not spend. To not be out shopping. To not worry about all the latest deals. Don't get me wrong, I love deals, but I can't get them all. It takes too much time and even too much money. Do I really need it? NO. There will always be more deals.

I challenge you this week to think more carefully about your purchases that you make, large or small. Is that $10 item something you really need? Or is that $10 money you can put away? Every dollar makes a difference! It is difficult. That month was very hard for me. But as time went on it gradually became easier until by the end of the month it was becoming a habit.

What are some challenges for you when it comes to saving vs. spending?

A safe for safekeeping

It is important for everyone to have all their important documents together and safe. We used to have a safety deposit box at our credit union for many of our important documents. What I didn't like about that was:

1. It cost us $15 per year.
2. The box was small so my 8 1/2 x 11 documents had to be folded.
3. I wanted to fit more in there, but couldn't (and I wasn't willing to pay more per year for the larger box).
4. I had keys to keep track of.
5. Having to go over there every time I needed to access something (about 1x a month).

Our solution was to buy a safe to keep at home. Easy and quick access. It cost $40 from Big Lots. (they have them back this week, starting on Tuesday if anyone is interested).

I love this safe because it locks, it has hanging file capability so all my papers that I want to keep nice (like birth certificates & car titles) can be put in folders, and it is fireproof and waterproof. And, I think it is a good price compared to others I found. I keep all my originals in this safe. I am making a binder with copies in it for emergencies. It's called a GAG notebook (Grab it And Go). Click HERE for more info on that. I know many people like having a safety deposit box at their bank. You need to figure out what works for you and do it.

Do you like your storage method for your important documents? If you don't have one, think about starting one. Here is a list of important documents to get you going:

Car titles
Birth certificates
Passports
Social Security Cards
Immunization records
Insurance policies (health, life, house, auto, etc)
Receipts for large purchases
Letters of importance
Marriage certificate
Property records (house closing docs)
Lease contract
Packets I have on each of the kids w/identification info and fingerprints
Legal documents (wills, power of attorney, etc)
Tax returns (at least 2 years)
Investment records
